The dominating front  grille is still quite bold, but now features a more sculptural frame,  with thinner cross-members elements in the center. Two-piece headlights  have merged into one dual-element unit, and are more steeply raked up  towards the corners of the front end; LED elements now frame the  headlights, rather than being used in strip-form at the bottom of the  fascia. The lower front fascia itself has changed pretty dramatically,  too, with a center aperture that now tapers from wide to narrow, top to  bottom, where the existing car has essentially the reversed shape. The  overall effect is far more flowing and delicate than the hammerhead of  the current E.<br /><br />Out back there seem to be revised taillamps and  exhaust tips, though the changes to the car's rear are far more subtle  than those made to its front.<br /><br />Have a look at these first few  leaked images of the new E-Class, and then tell us, in comments, if you  like the changes you see, or not. When it came to the  modifications, the designers followed the new Mercedes design idiom and  reinterpreted the classical design values of the brand using the  existing basis. The result is a superior and refined, sporty appearance.<br /><br />The  front has been completely revised with new headlamps, which comprise  all functional elements with a single headlamp lens. Flowing light  elements within the headlamps help to ensure that the "four-eyed" look  which is typical of the E-Class has been graphically retained. In terms  of light and sight the E-Class sets a measuring bar: The dipped beam as  well as the day-time headlamps are fitted with partial LED lights as  standard, while full LED headlamps are available for the first time in  this class as an option.<br /><br />For the first time, the Mercedes-Benz  E-Class is available with two different front-end designs: in the  standard version, the basic variant and ELEGANCE equipment line are  combined with the classic Saloon grille with 3-louvre look and star on  the bonnet. The AVANTGARDE line, meanwhile, incorporates the sports car  radiator with central star, and as such offers an independent front-end  look with a sporty emphasis.<br /><br />The bonnet and front bumper have  also been completely redesigned too. With its flowing lines, the bonnet  follows the new design idiom in a smooth, very straightforward manner.  The bumper, which boasts a new shape and is free of all light functions,  has a modern appearance and, along with the wing design of its spoiler  lip, discreetly underscores the sporty credentials of the E-Class.<br /><br /><b>High-quality appointments</b><br /><br />The  new E-Class is already fitted with a comprehensive series of  high-quality appointments as standard. The new optional highlights,  meanwhile, include HANDS-FREE ACCESS. This enables the boot lid to be  opened and closed without actual physical contact by simply holding your  foot beneath the bumper, and is therefore extremely convenient when  loading and unloading the vehicle.<br /><br />A modern range of infotainment  systems helps to keep the driver up to date while on the road in terms  of what is happening around the world or in the office. The systems also  enable music to be enjoyed or also optionally offer powerful navigation  solutions as well as an internet connection. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class  Saloon and Estate both come as standard with the Audio 20 CD Radio. It  features a twin tuner and mp3-capable CD player as well as a USB  connection in the centre armrest. The TFT colour display measures 14.7  cm diagonally. Bluetooth®-capable devices can also be connected, and SMS  text messages displayed.<br /><br />Optionally the Audio 20 CD can be  combined with a six-disc CD changer as well as the reasonably-priced,  entry-level Becker®MAP PILOT navigation solution, which can also be  retrofitted.<br /><br />Alternatively, Mercedes-Benz offers the COMAND  Online multimedia system for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class with 17.8 cm  high-resolution colour display, internet connection, hard-disc  navigation and emergency call feature, which can also be combined with a  six-disc DVD changer. COMAND Online provides internet access enabling  customers to surf the web while the car is stationary or call up a  Mercedes-Benz app, whose particularly fast page loading and simple  operation make it suitable for use while driving. Integrated apps  include Google™ Local Search and Weather and the facility for  downloading a route which has previously been configured on a PC using  Google Maps and transmitted to the car. This is  because the vertically-arranged damper struts had to make way for the  additional drive shafts. As is usual in a wide variety of racing  vehicles, horizontal damper struts are now used, which are operated via  separate push rods and transfer levers. Thanks to this sophisticated  front-axle design, which has already been tried and tested in the world  of motorsport, the agility and driving dynamics of the Mercedes-Benz SLS  AMG Coupé Electric Drive attain the same high levels as the V8 variant.  Another distinguishing feature is the speed-sensitive power steering  with rack-and-pinion steering gear: the power assistance is implemented  electrohydraulically rather than just hydraulically.<br /><br /><b>AMG ceramic composite brakes for perfect deceleration</b><br /><br />The  SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive is slowed with the aid of AMG  high-performance ceramic composite brakes, which boast direct brake  response, a precise actuation point and outstanding fade resistance,  even in extreme operating conditions. The over-sized discs - measuring  402 x 39 mm at the front and 360 x 32 mm at the rear - are made of  carbon fibre-strengthened ceramic, feature an integral design all round  and are connected to an aluminium bowl in a radially floating  arrangement.<br /><br />The ceramic brake discs are 40 percent lighter in  weight than the conventional, grey cast iron brake discs. The reduction  in unsprung masses not only improves handling dynamics and agility, but  also ride comfort and tyre grip. The lower rotating masses at the front  axle also ensure a more direct steering response - which is particularly  noticeable when taking motorway bends at high speed.<br /><br /><b>Exclusive, high-quality design and appointments</b><br /><br />Visually,  the multi-award-winning design of the SLS AMG is combined with a number  of specific features which are exclusive to the Electric Drive variant.  The front apron has a striking carbon-look CFRP front splitter which  generates downforce on the front axle. The radiator grille and adjacent  air intakes adorn special areas painted in the vehicle colour and with  bionic honeycomb-shaped openings. They are not only a visual highlight  but, thanks to their aerodynamically optimised design, also improve air  flow over the cooling modules mounted behind them. Darkened headlamps  also impart a sense of independence to the front section. Viewed from  the side, the "Electric Drive" lettering stands out on the vehicle side,  as do the AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels with their specific paint  design. The SLS AMG Electric Drive comes as standard with 265/35 R 19  tyres on the front and 295/30 R 20 tyres on the rear. The overall look  is rounded off to dynamic effect by the new diffuser-look rear apron,  and the darkened rear lamps. One feature reserved exclusively for the  SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive is the "AMG electricbeam magno" matt paint  finish.
